Key facts
The Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology, MeteoSwiss, acts as the national weather service, fulfilling meteorological and climatological responsibilities for the benefit of the population, businesses, and public institutions. MeteoSwiss is part of the Federal Department of Home Affairs (FDHA) and, as an “MPMGB administrative unit”, receives a performance mandate from the Federal Council every four years, which defines guidelines for its work. In 2007, the expenditures of MeteoSwiss were approximately CHF 70 million, CHF 40 million (57%) of which were covered by the Confederation, nearly CHF 20 million (28%) by aviation weather revenue, and about CHF 10 million (14%) by revenue from the sale of other services.
